Guest Post by Patricia Lynne & #GIveaway

When I published my first book, Being Human, I was a newbie. No experience publishing and limited knowledge from what I could find on the Internet and asking those who had published before me. Mistakes were made, but I learned from them and corrected them quickly. So when it came time to publish Snapshots, I was pretty confident. I wouldn’t make the same mistakes twice.

Instead, I made new ones!

Publishing Snapshots turned into a nightmare that I avoid remembering. It was so bad that at one point I was certain my writing partner believed I was going to delete the book and tried to talk me down. Hubby had to console me because I thought I had given readers another reason to avoid self-published books and was bawling my eyes out. (And I hate crying in front of others.) It wasn’t my own books I was hurting, it was others as well. Brilliant books that surpass mine would be hurt because I got sloppy.

Dear Mattel: Please DON'T Change Barbie

The other day I read this article talking about Nickolay Lamm and creation of a more realistic Barbie. It's all part that whole, "Barbie gives young girls unrealistic expectations of body image" thing that people have chosen to have their panties in a wad over. Here's the "realistic Barbie" compared to a real Barbie.

I took the pictures from the article.
The measurements for the "realistic Barbie" are based off of the CDC's measurements for the average 19-year-old female.

The writer of this article then went on to tell Mattel, "We're waiting to see her on shelves, Mattel. [Insert impatient foot-tapping noise here.]"

Umm...No, please no. And here's why:

#IWSG

These last several months have been rather unproductive for me. The combination of a monstrous allergy season, kidney stones and ridiculous heat have made my brain complete mush. Along with barely maintaining an online presence, I haven't touched my WIP. This is the same WIP I was supposed to have to my critique partner by the end of April.

All I've been doing is staring at the last three chapters that need editing.

Come on brain! It's three chapters! It really isn't that hard.

Thanks for being useless body/brain.
